Are you deciding on whether or not you should invite vampire lords in The Blood of Dawnwalker? The vrakhiri–Brencis, Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe–have ravaged the entirety of Vale Sangora. They’ve killed thousands of people and ruined the lives of countless others. They’ve turned entire settlements into charnel houses and they’ve feasted on the anguished cries of the innocent.

But, hey, maybe inviting their soul still seems like a good idea. Let’s discuss if this particular facet is worth the trouble, and be ready for spoilers, too.

The Blood of Dawnwalker – Inviting a vrakhiri’s soul while in Anachora

The act of inviting a vampire in The Blood of Dawnwalker, surprisingly enough, doesn’t offer any downsides. Here’s how it occurs:

First, you need to increase your Infamy level by sabotaging the operations of the vampire boyars. Once a vampire lord has been angered enough, you’ll receive a quest where you’ll be able to eliminate them for good.
When you fight and defeat a vampire lord–and assuming it’s nighttime/Coen is in vampire form–you’ll be presented an option to drink their blood.
If you drink their blood, you’ll obtain their unique skill.
This action also transports you to Anachora, also known as the hell for every damned vampiric soul.

Some vampire lords actually like being in hell.

No downsides to inviting a vampire

While you’re in Anachora, you’ll have a chat with the soul of the vampire boyar that you just defeated. Some might beg you to show mercy, while others are just happy staying in that nightmarish realm.

Through dialogue options, you can just tell your foe that you’re “inviting them in” (or any statement of a similar effect). This causes their soul/essence to meld with Coen’s consciousness.

For the most part, their disembodied voices will just make snide remarks or warn you of dangers. It’s like having someone going “tsk tsk” every now and then. It’s not really as annoying at first glance.

Note: The vampire boyars aren’t the only ones whose souls can be tied to yours. You might even meet an ancient lord while undertaking a female companion’s quest chain.

The final battle in Anachora

The vampire boyars that you invite do contribute near the end of the campaign when you finally face Brencis. The second phase of the battle transitions to Anachora, where Brencis will transform into the Grotesque Ascendant.

If you already have the souls of Ambrus, Bakir, and/or Xanthe, they’ll periodically attack Brencis. You’ll see Bakir’s flying kicks, Ambrus’ twirling slashes, and Xanthe’s bloody whips, all hitting Brencis when the opportunity arises.
