While I’m a fan of the Stalker games, there’s something about the more linear nature and, ironically, on-rails experience that the Metro games deliver. With a tense atmosphere, mutated creatures, and factions split within the underground of a demolished Russia, the Metro series might be some of my favorite FPS games of all time—and with Metro 2039 almost here, now’s the chance to catch up on the series for less than $9. That’s all three of the games released so far.

The series starts with Metro 2033, two decades after an apocalyptic event ended most of mankind and turned the surface into a radioactive wasteland. Even breathing the air is enough to kill you, but the monstrous creatures above will do that far quicker. You play as Artyom, who leaves the safety of his home station in order to warn the rest of the metro about a new, mysterious mutant threat called the Dark Ones.

I can’t really go into more detail on Metro Last Light without spoiling the predecessor. So, just take my word for it: it is arguably better, with a great narrative bolstered by gameplay improvements. Metro Exodus follows Artyom as he believes life still continues outside of Moscow, and aboard the Aurora train alongside his wife and the Spartan Rangers, he heads off to discover the truth.

In all three of the Metro games, you’re limited to a first-person view, putting you face-to-face with enemies of the human and mutant variety. Even though it may look like your typical FPS game, there’s a lot more of a survival focus, with limited resources meaning that every bullet needs to count, and using your gas mask’s filters at the right time is essential to surviving.

All three Metro games are the remastered or enhanced editions with this discount. In fact, Exodus is actually the version that includes all post-launch DLC, so you’re getting the entire Metro series so far at a very steep discount, right as the Metro 2039 release date has been announced.
