DC Comics has released its full list of solicitations for December 2026. And while there’s a lot to be excited for at the end of the year (including the impending finale of Tom King and Daniel Sampere’s Wonder Woman run), the biggest news involves a new hardcover collection of Alan Moore’s classic Saga of the Swamp Thing run.
The Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Omnibus promises to be the definitive collection of what most would regard as one of the finest comics ever published by DC. That’s because this two-volume slipcase set will reprint the entirety of Moore’s run with a restored and remastered version of the original coloring and period-appropriate paper stock.
For those not familiar, there are currently two ways of reading Moore’s Swamp Thing in collected format, neither of which feature the original coloring from the single issues. The six trade paperbacks and two Absolute Edition hardcovers each have new, modernized coloring, and both versions have been heavily criticized by fans for altering the tone of the original comics.
You can check out this Reddit thread to see a side-by-side comparison of the originals, the trade paperbacks, and the Absolute Editions. The differences are pretty stark, to put it mildly. DC hasn’t yet released any interior preview art of the Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Omnibus, but the expectation is that the books will be much more in line with how the series originally appeared in the ’80s.
Here’s DC’s official summary of the Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Omnibus:
When Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta) took over Swamp Thing, the world of comics was forever changed. Joined by groundbreaking artists, these are the stories that forever defined the character, introduced the world to John Constantine and the Green, and pushed the boundaries of what was possible within the medium. From horror to fantasy, romance to science fiction, discover what it means to truly be alive. Collects The Saga of the Swamp Thing #16-30, Swamp Thing #31-64, Swamp Thing Annual #2, DC Comics Presents #85, John Constantine, Hellblazer #1-3, and pages from DC Sampler #2-3, Crisis on Infinite Earths #4, and The New Teen Titans (vol. 2) #18 and #22, along with Moore’s original proposal for the lost event Twilight of the Superheroes and the surviving pages from Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s Swamp Thing: Déjà Vu (set in the aftermath of Moore’s run). With new essays by Bissette and Veitch, along with never before seen original artwork, pencils, scripts, and more!
Unfortunately, this Swamp Thing collection won’t release until July 6, 2027, but that does give fans time to save up the $175 it’ll cost to own the set. But if you don’t mind the modern coloring, you can find Amazon links for the other versions below:
This isn’t the first time recently that DC has thrown a major bone to classic Swamp Thing fans. Last year, the publisher revealed plans to finally release a controversial, canceled storyline where Swamp Thing meets Jesus Christ.
