Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has warned mobile subscribers against allowing other people to use SIM cards registered in their names. Fraudulent SIM issuance and tampering with telecom identifiers can lead to legal action. Under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, violations involving fraudulent SIM procurement and IMEI tampering can carry a jail term of up to three years and a fine of up to Rs. 50 lakh.
