Canada has opened a 60-day public consultation on proposed regulations for stablecoin issuers that are not financial institutions, with feedback accepted until December 23. The framework includes restrictions on yield payments, redemption requirements, and limits on transaction fees. The proposed rules aim to align Canada’s approach with international frameworks and are expected to take effect in fall 2027, after which eligible issuers would need to register with the Bank of Canada.
