Pedro Pascal Is Hiding an Avengers: Doomsday Easter Egg on His Doctor Doom Halloween Costume, Fans Say

Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal’s Avengers: Doomsday Halloween costumes may have been more than just a fun treat for Marvel fans.

As footage of the two Marvel Cinematic Universe stars was shared across social media feeds throughout the spooky holiday weekend, die-hard fans began combing through every little detail to see if the Doctor Doom or Reed Richards actors had subtly teased any Easter Eggs. With less than 20 seconds of footage to look through, you’d think that wouldn’t be the case, but you might want to think again.

While Downey nearly recreated Mister Fantastic’s blue retro-themed getup to a tee, Pascal’s Doctor Doom costume looks a bit…lazier, at least at first glance. It seemed to be just a neat mask and cape paired with jeans and a sweatshirt, but upon closer inspection, it’s what’s on that sweatshirt that matters. In fact, it may tell us more about how deep Reed Richards and Victor von Doom’s relationship goes.

Zoom in on the MIT shirt and take a look at its logo. The low quality of Downey Jr.’s original upload makes it a bit hard to see all the details, but there’s just enough here to suggest that we’re looking at an illustration featuring both Doctor Doom and Mister Fantastic.

So, why does this matter? Well, The Fantastic Four: First Steps did little to flesh out Reed and Victor’s relationship ahead of Avengers: Doomsday. All we’ve really seen when it comes to the mask-wearing villain’s ties to Marvel’s first family thus far is a short clip of what looked like him spending some time with Franklin Richards.

Reed and Victor are often known to have more than a few connections before, but outside of some trailer teases, it’s hard to say just how close they ever were or still may be. MCU enjoyers believe this little logo is our first hint that Reed and Victor might go way, way back, with some fans theorizing that Pascal and Downey are teasing a bit of backstory that we might learn more about when the next Avengers movie premieres next month.

+6 points for them telling us Reed and Victor went to MIT together by having them as the seal for the MIT logo. https://t.co/6yLLzOj4qH

Others, however, aren’t so convinced. As many have pointed out, the rough image quality might have everyone looking a little too deeply into what’s on Pascal’s Doom costume. While some doubters still appreciate the callout, they suspect we could just be getting a sneak peek at some new merch. As with most early fan theories for big-budget comic book movies, these theories could totally pan out, or they could mean nothing.

It’s hard not to try and read too much into any potential Easter Eggs or teases when Avengers: Doomsday is only a little more than one month away. Fans again pulled out magnifying glasses when a father’s day post shared by Downey suggested the upcoming MCU movie might dive into Doctor Doom’s backstory. At the very least, we know all will be revealed when the movie premieres December 18.
