The WD Green SN3000 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVME Solid State Drive (SSD) Drops to $129 at Newegg

The WD Green SN3000 is fast for a “budget” M.2 SSD. This is a DRAM-less PCI-E 4×4 drive equipped with SanDisk’s QLC 3D NAND memory and boasting transfer speeds of up to 5,000MB/s read and 4,200MB/s write. This is an ideal boot drive for your gaming PC, but it’s also fully compatible with the PlayStation 5 console. It’s a bit under Sony’s recommended minimum requirement of 5,5000MB/s, but you likely won’t notice the speed difference except maybe during game installations when you are moving large files.

Installing an SSD in your PlayStation 5 console is super easy and won’t void your warranty. It’s also a near essential upgrade. With games taking up as much as 100GB apiece, it’s very easy to max out the PS5’s stock 1TB storage (which is actually just 667MB of usable storage). In fact, it’s not unheard of for an avid PS5 gamer to cap out even with 2TB.

Although you can get by without a heatsink, Sony officially recommends one, as noted in their FAQ section in their install guide. The WD Green SN3000 doesn’t include one out of the box. Fortunately, you can find one on Amazon for about $6 and they’re very simple to install (most are attached with adhesive).
