Maruti Swift and Dzire CNGs now available with AMT

Maruti Suzuki has launched AMT versions of the Swift and Dzire CNGs. Introductory prices of the Swift CNG AMT and Dzire CNG AMT are Rs 7.92 lakh and Rs 8.53 lakh, respectively. This is the first time that the brand is offering the convenience of an automatic with the low running costs of a CNG powertrain. Maruti becomes the second brand to provide AMT gearboxes with CNG-powered models; Tata Motors was the first to introduce the powertrain combo on select models in its lineup.

Maruti Suzuki Swift, Dzire CNG AMT: What’s new?

AMT versions of the Swift and Dzire CNGs are powered by the same Z12E, 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine as their manual versions. Both come with a 55-litre (water-equivalent) CNG tank. In CNG mode, both produce 70hp and 102Nm, with the AMT gearbox being a 5-speed unit.

The Swift CNG AMT has a claimed mileage of 35.34km/kg which is 2.49km/kg more than its manual version. At 36.47km/kg, the Dzire CNG AMT’s claimed efficiency is 2.74km/kg more than the manual variant. Like their manual counterparts, both models come with retuned suspension to handle the extra weight of the CNG tank, a CNG fuel level indicator, and a fuel switch.

The Swift CNG AMT is available on its VXi, VXi(O) and ZXi trims, while the Dzire offers the powertrain combo with its VXi and ZXi trims. The Swift and Dzire CNG AMTs rival the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor CNG AMTs. Unlike the Tata models that come with a dual-cylinder setup for their CNG-powered models, Maruti has chosen to fit a single large tank instead; thus, boot space is very limited in the Swift and Dzire CNGs.
