Disney+ has altered its user agreement to clarify that ads will be allowed on all subscription tiers.
Subscribers took note of the updated terms when the company sent out emails about the changes last week (via Dexerto). An email sent to UK subscribers that was reviewed by IGN mentioned that Disney+ had “clarified that all service plans” can now include a range of promotional content before and after viewers stream movies and shows. You can read the message sent to subscribers below.
“Changes to your Disney+ Subscriber Agreement, include, in summary, the following (though we do encourage you to read the new Subscriber Agreement in full): – We’ve clarified that all Service Plans may include: (i) promotional content, (ii) sponsorships, and (iii) advertisements before/after playback of Content and in channels, live/as-live, special events, and any third-party services content.”
While this doesn’t mean Disney will now start baking in advertisements throughout all content, it does seemingly loosen restrictions for promotional content for even the service’s most expensive tier. It’s a quiet-but-major change, with previous standalone Disney+ plans broken up between two options.
The Basic Disney+ tier, which costs $11.99/month, did not and still does not allow for ad-free viewing. The Premium tier comes in at $18.99/month (or $189.99/year). It still promises “no ads,” but based on the updated wording, it seems ads may appear before and after playback, just not during it. Either way, the new subscriber agreement seemingly solidifies the end of a completely ad-free experience on the platform.
Disney+’s Junior Mode appears to be the one exception. Profiles with the kid-friendly experience enabled will not be subjected to ads or promotional content. How exactly today’s changes might affect the frequency of ads per tier is unclear.
Disney+ implemented its latest price increases in October 2025. You can see the full line-up of content made available on the streaming service for September 2026 here.
