As the government celebrates 12 years of the Make in India initiative, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has highlighted the growing depth of India’s smartphone manufacturing ecosystem. The minister said that India is moving from assembling handsets to producing components and materials used inside them. In a series of posts on X, Vaishnaw explained how the manufacturing ecosystem is moving further up the supply chain. His comments come as the government pushes the Rs. 62,500 crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme.
