Miami Vice '85 Casts Walton Goggins in Villain Role

Walton Goggins will play a villain in Miami Vice ’85.

Deadline reports that Goggins, who has made a name for himself in recent years via Fallout and The White Lotus, will leverage his nefarious qualities on the big screen in 2028. The actor will play a henchman/assassin acting on behalf of John Leguizamo’s character, who is a cartel king and the lead villain in the film.

The two villains will be contending with characters played by Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, who will play Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, respectively.

Not much is known about the film right now, but it is expected to be a period reboot of the iconic TV series. It’s not a sequel to Michael Mann’s own film adaptation of the TV series or an extension of the original source material.

The film will be helmed by F1 and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. The project was initially slated for a 2027 release, but was pushed back to May 2028. It is expected to begin filming sometime this year, so expect more casting announcements in the coming weeks as production ramps up.

Walton Goggins has made a name for himself by playing treacherous characters. He made the rounds as a variety of shady TV characters on shows like Justified, The Shield, and more. He has also starred in films like The Hateful Eight, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Tomb Raider. He’s arguably best known these days for playing The Ghoul, a sort of anti-hero in Fallout that has been corrupted by the Wasteland while searching for his long-lost family.
