India’s 6–1 defeat to Uruguay was painful, but Anirudh Thapa provided a rare moment of history by ending the country’s 44-year wait for a goal against La Celeste. His rebound made him only the second Indian scorer against Uruguay, joining Manas Bhattacharya, who struck in 1982. For Thapa, the landmark goal also marked his first international strike since 2023.
