Google has expanded access to its SynthID Detector, allowing users to check digital media for invisible watermarks associated with AI-generated content. The tool was previously aimed at media professionals but is now available globally in English. It supports watermarks created by Google and participating AI companies, including OpenAI, Nvidia and Kakao, with Apple support coming soon. Google introduced SynthID in 2023 and says it has watermarked more than 180 billion images and videos, as well as 240,000 years’ worth of audio.
