Prime Video has officially renewed Mike Flanagan’s Carrie for a second season, saying there’s “much more in store” for our favorite prom queen.
Amazon announced the news today, October 22, revealing that Carrie skyrocketed to the number one spot on Prime Video across 105 countries worldwide. It’s no surprise; the show was well-received by critics and audiences alike, sparking no end of fan theories and comparisons to other adaptations of Stephen King’s debut novel.
As per a press release from Prime Video, Carrie’s story is “far from over,” and “much remains in store from Mike Flanagan and Stephen King, as new revelations will come to light, major character arcs, and plenty of shocking twists.”
“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers,” Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global Television, Peter Friedlander, said in a statement. “It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”
Mike Flanagan also shared excitement to continue Carrie’s story past the original novel. “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next,” he said.
“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling,” Stephen King, who served as executive producer on the show, added.
Warning: Spoilers for Carrie ahead!
Flanagan’s Carrie was always ripe for a second season. It notably included elements from King’s other works like The Dark Tower and Doctor Sleep, and perhaps most importantly, Carrie lives at the end, being whisked away to safety by astral projector Emaline as they flee from Adelaide and a shadowy group of fellow telekinetics with the Shine.
There’s much we don’t know about this growing storyline, and although it deviates wildly from King’s original novel, it’s being produced by the man himself, who has expressed nothing but positivity for Flanagan’s take on the source material and is clearly jazzed for a second season.
Carrie offers a modern-day retelling of the ‘74 book that resonates with 2026 viewers, portraying the harsh realities of being a student in an increasingly dangerous learning environment, current political issues, and the real impact social media has on peoples’ lives.
Carrie is available to watch on Prime Video right now. IGN scored the show an eight out of ten, with reviewer Tom Jorgensen saying: “With smart story accommodations for the social media age and a pair of stellar performances from Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan, Mike Flanagan and his team have successfully made the case for why Carrie’s story needed to be retold.”
