India to Enforce BIS Registration Rules for Smartphone Screen Protectors From April 2027

The Indian government has brought smartphone screen protectors under its compulsory registration framework, with the new requirement set to apply from April 1, 2027. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has specified IS 19348:2025 as the applicable Indian Standard. The standard covers glass quality, dimensions and strength, along with features such as adhesives, anti-shatter films, oleophobic and anti-glare coatings, blue-light filtering and privacy layers. The new framework could affect product availability and add testing and certification costs for businesses.
