Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve picks up where Ace Combat 7 left off, underlining that the series is well and truly back to its best. The story could’ve been stronger–more introspective–but is entertaining regardless, and while there are some pacing issues with filler missions and some uneven momentum, much of the game is excellent, providing the series’ signature blend of melodrama, stirring music, and thrilling aerial combat.
