The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme Handheld Gaming PC Drops to $424, Still One of the More Powerful Options

The ROG Ally has been around since 2023, but it’s still one of most powerful handhelds you can get. This particular model is the higher end version featuring an AMD Zen 4 based Z1 Extreme CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It’s more powerful than the Ryzen Z2, Ryzen Z2 Go and Ryzen Z2a APUs you’ll find on similarly priced handhelds like the Steam Deck, Xbox Ally and Legion Go S. The only APU that’s more powerful is the Z2 Extreme, which is found in gaming handhelds that cost $1,000 or more. It boasts a 7″ screen size with a sharp 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

IGN’s Jackie Thomas wrote up a great piece on why the Steam Deck no longer gets her recommendation and instead chooses the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally. The ROG Ally with its Z1 Extreme APU is more powerful for a lower price.
